Woke County Speedway
Triangle slacker-country with a punk streak: crunchy, twangy guitars under gutter-poet lyrics that land somewhere between Silver Jews and Drive-By Truckers.
About Woke County Speedway
Woke County Speedway is a five-piece from North Carolina's Triangle: Rich Ivey on vocals, Devon Tuttle on drums, Josh Lawson and Matt Wentz on guitars and Nathan Price on bass. The name is a pun on Wake County Speedway, the quarter-mile track in Raleigh.
The band plays alt-country with a punk edge, setting twangy, crunchy guitars under lyrics that are bleak and funny in the same breath. Drive-By Truckers, Uncle Tupelo and Silver Jews are the touchstones it names. Its first album is self-titled.
