Scottish producer who signed to XL as a teenager on the strength of his Escapism EPs, later stepping up to sing on the disco-tinged viral hit 'Assumptions'.

Sam Gellaitry is a producer from Stirling who first drew attention as a teenager uploading beats online, part of a wave of young producers working with woozy synths, pitched vocals and off-kilter hip-hop rhythms. The Escapism releases on XL gathered that early work into bright, maximal instrumental tracks.

His later material moved toward songwriting, with Gellaitry singing over his own productions and leaning on funk and disco basslines. That shift reached a much wider audience through short-form video, and his live shows now mix the vocal songs with the dense instrumental work he started with.
