Frank Walker
Canadian producer working the bright, melodic side of dance music — festival-scale drops with a pop songwriter's ear for a hook.
Frank Walker grew up as the son of Canadian business executives Donald J. Walker and Belinda Stronach, part of a family that expected him to join Magna International, the auto parts company founded by his grandfather Frank Stronach. He played trombone at the Country Day School in King City, Ontario, and spent teenage stretches working in Magna's research and development department and on a plant floor.
He studied business at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, where music shifted from hobby toward plan; he has pointed to a party for the school's rugby team as a turning point. After graduating he chose music over a role at Magna, releasing his debut EP, Nocturnal, in 2016, followed by 24 in 2017.
Frank Walker works in melodic, vocal-driven dance music, building tracks around a sung topline and a clear chorus, with the production shaped around the vocal rather than the other way round. Singles such as "Heartbreak Back," with Riley Biederer, and "Footprints," with Callum Stewart, both arrived in 2018. His 2019 collaboration with Astrid S, "Only When It Rains," became his most noted release, earning a Juno Award nomination for Dance Recording of the Year in 2020.
In 2024 he released his debut studio album, Origin, which he described as a callback to progressive house and the golden era of 2010s electronic dance music. That January he opened two Toronto dates on Madonna's Celebration Tour. Live, he plays as a DJ, folding his own material into sets of contemporary house and mainstage electronic music.
