Wolves At The Gate
Ohio metalcore band that has spent well over a decade balancing screamed and sung vocals against faith-driven lyrics — heavy without the nihilism.
Wolves at the Gate came together in 2008 in Cedarville, Ohio. An early demo, Prisoner of War, appeared in 2009, and drummer Ryan Connelly left shortly afterward; vocalist Steve Cobucci programmed the drum parts on the band's early releases himself. The group signed with Solid State Records, the metal-focused arm of Tooth & Nail, in 2011.
The band's approach sets Cobucci's melodic clean singing against harsher screamed vocals, over twin-guitar riffing and breakdowns typical of metalcore. Its lyrics draw openly on Christian theology and scripture, which has kept the group closely tied to the Christian hardcore and metalcore circuit.
Captors, the band's first full-length, arrived in 2012 and reached number seven on Billboard's Christian Albums chart. Further albums have followed at a steady pace: VxV in 2014, Types & Shadows in 2016, Eclipse in 2019, Eulogies in 2022 and Wasteland in 2025, alongside acoustic EPs such as Reprise and Dawn and a run of Christmas singles.
Guitarist Joey Alarcon joined around the time of Eclipse in 2019, adding a second guitar voice to the band's sound. Wasteland, released in 2025, stands as the band's sixth full-length album, with Cobucci remaining at the core of the lineup throughout.
