Those Damn Crows
Bridgend hard rock built for big rooms, with the kind of chorus-first songwriting that turned a South Wales pub circuit act into a proper touring proposition.
Those Damn Crows formed in Bridgend, South Wales, in 2014, built around vocalist Shane Greenhall, guitarist Ian "Shiner" Thomas, bassist Lloyd Wood and drummer Ronnie Huxford, joined soon after by second guitarist David Winchurch. The band's name came from a line shouted by Huxford's father at crows raiding his garden.
They play melodic hard rock built around choruses meant to be sung back, guitar hooks kept simple and the vocals pushed to the front. The band worked its way up through UK clubs, earning a "Ones to Watch" tag from Planet Rock radio in 2017 and a New Band of the Week nod from Metal Hammer the following year.
A multi-album deal with the Nottingham label Earache Records followed in 2018, and Those Damn Crows released their debut album, Murder and the Motive, that October. It reached number 5 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart, an unusual trajectory for a rock act without radio backing.
Point of No Return entered the UK Albums Chart at number 14 in 2020, and the band continued with Inhale/Exhale before God Shaped Hole reached number one, Earache's first chart-topping release. Across the records, the songwriting runs from classic British hard rock toward more contemporary radio-rock production, with the choruses always carrying the weight.
