Tara Clerkin Trio formed in Bristol in 2020, centred on singer Tara Clerkin, and now works from London while keeping the unhurried, quiet space between jazz, ambient and post-rock that shaped its early records.
The group builds tracks from small parts, brushed percussion, muted keys, double bass, tape fragments and field recording, with Clerkin's voice used more as texture than as a lead line. Recordings mix electronic and analogue instruments freely, and it's just as common to hear scaffolding clink, wind chimes or footsteps on a track as an actual instrument.
The results are short, loosely structured pieces that drift rather than build, sitting in a Bristol lineage that runs through the city's dub and trip-hop history without borrowing its beats. Their releases have appeared on the World of Echo label, and their second album, Somewhere Good, continued that same restless mix of trip-hop, avant-garde pop, minimal jazz and quieter psychedelia.
