Sheherazaad is a singer and composer based in Brooklyn who writes and performs in Hindustani and Urdu. Her work draws on South Asian vocal traditions but places them in sparse, carefully arranged settings closer to art song and contemporary folk than to classical performance, with the voice generally foregrounded against minimal instrumentation. Her songwriting has dealt with diaspora, language and belonging.
