Os Garotin
Rio vocal group threading soul, samba and loose harmony into a warm, conversational take on Brazilian R&B.
Os Garotin is short for os garotinhos, or the boys in Portuguese. The trio is made up of Anchietx (Lucas Anchieta Gonzaga Ribeiro), Cupertino (Victor Cupertino) and Leo Guima (Leonardo Guimarães), all three raised together in São Gonçalo, in greater Rio de Janeiro.
The group's first experiences making music came through singing in church, and they formed as a band in 2019. Alongside soul, samba and contemporary R&B, their music also folds in rap, kept spare enough that the three voices stay upfront in the mix.
Each member brings a different reference point to the group: Leo has pointed to soul music, Cupertino to MPB, and Anchieta to R&B. Together they cite Brazilian artists such as Tim Maia, Cassiano and Djavan as shared influences.
Their album Os Garotin de São Gonçalo won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album in 2024, the same year the group was nominated for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammys.
