Kitchen Dwellers formed in Bozeman, Montana, in 2010, meeting as students at Montana State University. The quartet plays acoustic bluegrass instrumentation — guitar, banjo, mandolin and upright bass — but pushes it toward rock and psychedelia, a hybrid they have described as "galaxy grass".
Their sets combine original songs with extended improvisation and a fondness for unexpected covers, and they share vocal duties across the band. Along with a steady touring schedule through the American West and beyond, they have become a fixture of the jamgrass scene that grew out of the string-band revival of the past two decades.
