Big Gramatik

Big Gigantic and Gramatik pooling their horns and their sample crates into one funk-forward electronic set — a livetronica summit built for instant dancefloor payoff.

Big Gramatik is a joint project between two established names in American electronic dance music. Big Gigantic is the Boulder, Colorado duo of Dominic Lalli, who handles saxophone and production, and drummer Jeremy Salken, a pairing built on layering live horn and drum performance over programmed beats. Gramatik is Denis Jašarević, a producer originally from Slovenia who later based himself in the United States and founded the Lowtemp label, and whose work has helped define the sample-heavy, hip-hop-leaning end of glitch-hop and electro-soul.

Together the two acts combine their overlapping strengths: chopped soul and funk samples, heavy low end, and improvised saxophone and drums played over the top. The result sits closer to the live end of electronic music than to a straight DJ set, with the emphasis on groove and on the interplay between the recorded and played elements.
