Yachtley Crew, styled Yächtley Crëw, formed in Los Angeles in 2017 to play the soft rock and pop of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the polished style retroactively called yacht rock, with material from Christopher Cross, Toto and Michael McDonald delivered straight-faced in nautical stage dress. The band was voted Best Cover Band of 2018 by OC Weekly, which called them 'the Steel Panther of the high seas.'
They built their following through club and theatre shows in Southern California, at times sharing bills with the original artists behind the songs they cover, including Elliot Lurie of Looking Glass and Peter Beckett of Player. Touring was limited through 2020 because of the pandemic, but the band mounted its first national US tour in 2021, touring alongside the Los Angeles pop trio Raynes.
Yachtley Crew have also held a recurring residency at the Palms in Las Vegas for three consecutive years. In 2022 they signed to Mailboat Records, the label owned by Jimmy Buffett, and released their debut album, Seas the Day, in July 2023, produced and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge.
After Buffett's death in 2023, the band was released from its deal and signed to Earache Records in 2024, issuing the Christmas mini-album Seas and Greetings, again with Lord-Alge, featuring covers alongside one original song, 'Home for Christmas.' That November they appeared in the HBO documentary Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary.
A further album was confirmed for 2025, including 'Pain of Losing You,' written by Diane Warren, alongside a handful of familiar songs from the 1970s and '80s American songbook.
