Terry Allen

Terry Allen was born in 1943 in Wink, Texas, and grew up in Lubbock before leaving for art school in Los Angeles. He has worked on two tracks ever since: as a sculptor, painter and installation artist whose work sits in major museum collections, and as a songwriter who sings from behind the piano in a dry, deadpan drawl.

His records often double as extensions of his art projects, with recurring characters and storylines running across songs. Little Feat recorded his 'New Delhi Freight Train', and songs such as 'Amarillo Highway' have been picked up by a generation of Texas songwriters. His touring band, the Panhandle Mystery Band, has included his sons Bukka and Bale Allen, and his wife, the actor and writer Jo Harvey Allen, has been a frequent collaborator. Later albums include 'Bottom of the World' and 'Just Like Moby Dick'.
