Newcastle tech house with a grin — big, bouncy, unpretentious records engineered for the hour when everyone's already sweating.

Patrick Topping grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and first visited Ibiza in 2008, an experience that convinced him he needed to return every year. Unable to afford that as a regular visitor, he decided to become a DJ instead, received a set of decks that Christmas, and later took an online minimal techno course before studying at the University of Edinburgh.

He came to wider attention through Jamie Jones's Hot Creations label, and his 2014 track "Forget" became one of the most widely played house records of its year, earning him a Newcomer DJ award and Track of the Season honours in Ibiza. He built a following playing his own club night, Motion, at Digital in Newcastle before moving on to Tomorrowland, Awakenings and the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

In 2019 Topping started his own label, Trick, opening it with his own release "Watch What Ya Doing." The label has also put out early work by other producers, including Ewan McVicar's "Tell Me Something Good." Topping recorded his first BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2015 and has held a long-running summer residency for Paradise at Ibiza's DC10, with Trick taking over the club for nine weeks in 2022.

His productions sit in the tech house and house area, built around blunt basslines, looped vocal snippets and clear, functional arrangements aimed squarely at peak-time dancefloors.

In October 2020 he released "New Reality" with his wife, Hayley Topping, which was named Annie Mac's Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1. He was named DJ Mag's Best of British DJ of the Year in December 2022.
