Colossal Squid is the solo project of British drummer Adam Betts, who plays acoustic kit alongside triggered electronics, samplers and effects, treating the drums as both a rhythm source and a way of setting off and shaping synthetic sound. The results sit somewhere between instrumental rock, IDM and noise, built around dense polyrhythms and abrasive textures rather than conventional song structures.
Betts is also known as a member of the London instrumental trio Three Trapped Tigers and has played in Squarepusher's Shobaleader One live band. Colossal Squid performances are typically solo, with everything generated and manipulated by Betts on stage.
